KRYSTLE TUGADI wrote the chapter, "Our Heavy Doors" in The Kuwento Book: An Anthology of Filipino Stories + Poems. Krystle is an actor, singer, and writer based out of Los Angeles, California. She received her M.F.A. in Acting at California Institute of the Arts and her B.A. in Theatre at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Her most current project was a virtual workshop of the musical Carnival as Rosalie directed by Blake Harris. Past roles on stage include Brooke Ashton/Vicki in Noises Off! (CSU, Dominguez Hills), Kathy in Supplies and Provisions (Thymele Arts), Sonia in Dreamlandia (California Institute of the Arts), Rene in Personals the Musical (The Gallery Theatre), Agnes in Agnes of God (CSU, Dominguez Hills), and Seasons of Love Soloist/Ensemble Member in RENT (Cypress College).
Krystle is also a singer-songwriter and has written, composed, and produced her own album entitled, Time, which debuted in 2011. She has been the opening act for R&B singer-songwriter, Miguel, at the Key Club in Los Angeles, and was the headliner for shows such as the Jazzmopolitan All-Stars at the Ford Amphitheatre and the Festival for Philippine Arts and Culture in Los Angeles.
Krystle has also teamed up with one of her closest pals, Dustin Domingo, to produce the podcast called “MeSearch”. The podcast reclaims the academic term that has historically been viewed in a negative light to celebrate and highlight the Filipino/x/a-American experience and the community’s leaders.
Her love for sharing theater and performance has also brought her to teaching in K-12 and higher education. Being a AmeriCorps scholar, Krystle instructed junior high and high school LAUSD students as an Acting for Stage Teacher. She currently also works as a Program Coordinator and Arts Educator for the non-profit organization, Housing Corporation of America.
In her free time, Krystle loves to be a homebody with her husband, Mike Isberto, who she deems as her favorite singer/songwriter. She also loves to cook, read, and paint. Anything in mini-form excites her. She also loves llamas and believes that Grover is her kindred spirit puppet person.
