On Saturday, June 27, 2026, community leaders, educators, families, and supporters gathered at the PCCI’s Philippine Community Center in Houston for an inspiring evening honoring the legacy of Dr. Jose P. Rizal and celebrating individuals whose work continues to uplift and strengthen the Filipino community.
Hosted by the Knights of Rizal Texas Area Foundation, the Tribute to Dr. Jose P. Rizal was more than a formal gala—it was a celebration of service, leadership, education, and cultural pride. The evening featured distinguished guests, inspiring presentations, cultural performances, recognition of community leaders and donors, a delicious dinner, and time for fellowship and dancing. One of the evening's most memorable moments was the unveiling of the Dr. Jose Rizal statue, symbolizing the community's continued commitment to preserving the values and legacy of the Philippine national hero while supporting the vision of building Rizal Park in Houston, Texas.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Dr. Jose Rizal Excellence Award in Education to Dr. Pat Lindsay "Pinky" C. Catalla-Buscaino, founder of Kuwento Co.
Dr. Pinky was recognized for more than 20 years of transformative leadership as an educator, publisher, author, speaker, and community organizer. Through her unwavering dedication to education, storytelling, and cultural preservation, she has empowered countless individuals to embrace their heritage, share their voices, and build stronger communities.
Receiving an award named after Dr. Jose Rizal carries special significance. Rizal believed that education, courage, and written words have the power to transform society.
